I guess this needs some more pondering. Also, so far I have not seen a
real need for dumping with tags, maybe I’ll just wait for a bit more.

There is nothing wrong with advertising good software, corporate or not.
Of course, the testimonial should be genuine and not crafted by some PR
department :-)

Or maybe a separate „Examples“ section, similar to the Screenshots

Good idea; I added a history and credits section there.
